Is the spare print bed necessary for the Obsidian Deluxe?

All the HBPs come in addition to the normal bed, this means you can use any of them (The build task included with HBP is not attached to it so you can use it in either HBP or Normal bed).

Last updated: September 04, 2017 18:59

Is the nozzle kit necessary for the deluxe edition?

About the Nozzles, they are not essential but useful, one nozzle will last for a long time if you take care of it. This means to clean the hotbed once in a while, to take care when exchanging different materials, etc. The nozzle kit gives you the possibility to print at different quality/speed, the lower diameter will print with more detail but slower. Sometimes it is better to print fast, mostly for mechanical parts.

Kodama recommends you to buy the nozzle kit if you want to use the advantages the nozzle sizes produce in the detail or speeds, also having a spare 0,4mm is a good idea.

I upgraded to Deluxe from my standard Early Bird pledge, why don't I get the $20 credit for Deluxe backers?

Per Kodama team: Early birds get $10 for Deluxe; only normal Kickstarter backers who pledged during the campaign originally for the Deluxe tier get the $20.

Last updated: September 04, 2017 19:04

I opted from the $70 shipping plus credit to the $50 shipping, do I still get credit?

With the old shipping ($70), backers got 20$ in credit, then opted to get a reduced shipping and not having credit.

Some people think it is a different credit, but it is not, as reduced shipping only means they used this credit to pay less shipping. This is why they change and later ask for the other credit.

$50 and no credit is correct.

Are the 3 pack nozzles in different sizes?

At the moment they are not interchangeable nor can be possible to buy 3 of the same size. Later this may change, but check in on the KickStarter updates periodically for more news there.

Last updated: September 04, 2017 19:19

Is the hotbed and filament included?

If the printer is a Plus or Deluxe it will be included; the Filament is part of the PLUS or DELUXE package, not necessarily needs to be listed in the order review, it will be sent.

Last updated: September 04, 2017 19:22

How dense are the filaments?

At the moment we do not have the specific densities of the filaments. But the Metallic PLA has 10-15% in the metal dust (Either, copper, and bronze or aluminum depending on the color). So should be heavier but considerable enough to reduce the length of the spool length.

Does my pledge come with a warranty?

Backers have 1-year warranty, Kodama Care is focused on people that are new to 3D printing. With Care, we will help you to make easier to start to print, to learn faster. But if you have experience, you may not need it, the warranty covers the printer being damaged.

Last updated: September 04, 2017 20:04

Does the Hot Bed Plate need the normal bed to work?

With the deluxe, you will get the normal bed too, you can use one or another. The HBP does not need the normal bed to work. Also, they do not need each other to work, they are simply different surfaces to print so you can choose what to use. The buildtak will stick to the bed, you can unstick it some times before it looses its adhesive properties but there is no need to do it. is is a surface for printing. I recommend you to google BuildTak so you can learn more about it. will stick to the bed, you can unstick it some times before it looses its adhesive properties but there is no need to do it. is is a surface for printing. I ordered the nozzle kit, so what sizes are those in the kit and will I be able to tell the standard software what size the nozzle tip is when I change tips?

Last updated: September 06, 2017 15:46

I want to use HDPE with this machine, so will it work?

About HDPE, is not about the printer, Obsidian has the capabilities but this filament is one of the hardest to print, since it does not stick together well and has ridiculous warping problem. Even in injection molding is kinda tricky. Is a hard answer actually, since it will be hard to print but not because of the printer.

Last updated: September 06, 2017 15:46

Does my pledge come with the Simplify3D license with lifetime updates/upgrades ?

The License is bounded to S3D terms and conditions, so far this license has a lifetime update support. But there is a rumor that this may change and like I said is bounded to S3D decisions, not Kodama sadly.

Last updated: September 06, 2017 15:51

What is the difference between the Heated bed plate and the spare print bed ? I have the Deluxe version, so do I need to buy both for spare or only the heated bed plate ?

One can be heated and the other not, simple as that. The Deluxe includes both, if you want a spare of the HBP go ahead but it is not necessary since they are sturdy as hell. For the normal bed, it is your call. It is hard to say if you need it, most likely now but accidents happen.

Last updated: September 06, 2017 15:51

Do you put the Kodama Customized Buildtak Sheet on top of the heated bed plate ? (What do you normally on to of the heated plate, before you are going to print ?)

No, it is not mounted. Comes separated so you can decide where to stick it (Normal bed or HBP).

Is the menu multi-language?

At the moment I do not have the correct information, but most likely yes. We have been working on translating all the information published. Will confirm and later will tell to the customer (09/2017)

Last updated: September 06, 2017 17:02

Does the different print material make a rough, smooth, or hard surface depending on what is used?

Every material has its characteristics, there is wood like filament or metal infilled filament. Every additive put into the filament has that purpose, to either change the appearance or texture. But, different kind of materials have different mechanical properties and this is the basic reason to use them. I recommend you to check the RepRap and youtube to find more information about different filaments.

Last updated: September 06, 2017 17:02

Can the deluxe use all 3d material for printing?

No, only the ones that can be printed with a temperature below or equal to 250C plus filaments that can be printed with a bowden extruder (some super flexible materials are hard to print with a bowden extruder).

Last updated: September 06, 2017 17:03

If I purchase the Kodamacare add-on for my Obsidian printer will I be able to get real-time support?

Kodama Care will be a service to help new users to make the learning curve a bit smaller. We will prepare videos, tutorials, and troubleshooting for problems you may have, e.g. Print not sticking or how to improve the look of the print.

In the case of you having specific problems, we will help you personally, depending on the issue will be via CHAT or Phone call. For the second the Agent will make an appointment to call you if considered necessary. We will be available 7 days a week via email, we know some of the Backers only have time on weekends.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
